Gangasagar Mela at Sagar Island, where pilgrims gather at the sacred confluence of the Ganges River and the Bay of Bengal during Makar Sankranti. Hundreds of Hindu devotees and pilgrims performing the ritual holy dip (snan) along the silvery beaches and muddy shoreline of Gangasagar. The sacred bath at the meeting point of the Ganga and the Bay of Bengal is believed to cleanse sins and help devotees attain spiritual liberation, or moksha. Pilgrims of different ages are seen immersed in the water, while others sit on the wet sand performing prayers, pujas, and post-bath rituals. Red religious flags, temporary jetties, wooden structures, lighting towers, and crowd-management installations are visible throughout the mela grounds, reflecting the massive scale of one of India’s largest annual r
