A large group of young Indians head into a patch of open land along a highway to plant it up at the end of the monsoon 2019. More important than planting a tree is nurturing it and preventing it from being eaten by the hundreds of millions of bovines in India! How does one ensure safe growth for trees that are planted in India? Tree guards are expensive and bulky and do not ensure that the trees are watered. A tree guard costs many times the cost of a sapling. The solution lies in growing trees that don't need much care, little or no watering and can survive cattle onslaught as well.
