Snake plant or Cobra Lily in Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary near Yumthang, north Sikkim, India. The plant that can voluntarily undergo a sex change! The curious Sikkim cobra lily (Arisaema speciosum) as the name suggest, is a flower that is shaped like an extended hood of a Cobra. It has a slightly drooping spathe and a spadix decorated by a long threadlike extension. The spathe is purple in colour with white stripes, found only in Sikkim state of India and Nepal. According to Wikipedia: "Arisaema is a genus of about 150 species in the flowering plant family Araceae, native to eastern and central Africa, Asia and eastern North America. Its species are often called Cobra lilies, particularly the Asiatic species. A familiar species in North America is Arisaema triphyllum (Jack in the pulpit)
