Police lathi charge sadhus over idol immersion in Varanasi

Over two dozen persons including a few saints were injured when police reportedly resorted to lathi charge to disperse protesters who were holding a sit-in protest demanding immersion of Ganesh idol in Ganga. The incident took place in the Dasashwamegh Ghat locality of Varanasi where the locals, accompanied by some saints, were holding a protest for the past 40 hours on the main road obstructing traffic. According to reports, the Kashi Maratha Ganesh Utsav Samiti started its procession, along with the Ganesh idol, on Monday for the immersion of the idol in Ganga but was stopped by the administration that was citing the High Court's ruling in this regard. It is to be mentioned that the Allahabad High Court has banned immersion of idols and any such activity in the Ganga and Yamuna rivers. T
