The former Prime Minister Mr. Chandra Shekhar was conferred with the parliamentarian of the Year award by the President Mr. Shankar Dayal Sharma in the high domed hall of the Parliament this week. The award was given to him in the presence of the galaxy of leaders for a substantial contribution towards strengthening the country's parliamentary system calling him as a parliamentarian. Although, Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Mr. Indrajeet Gupta have been conferred with similar awards in the past. It is the first time this award has been instituted by the Indian parliamentary group on receiving the award Mr. Chandra Shekhar exhorted parliamentarians to make Parliament reflective of people's sentiments, aspirations and desires.
