It was not as usually the case of a foregone conclusion as when the Janata Dal members met on December 1st to elect their leader. Two opposing factions had worked diametrically different scenarios, each one casting a different star in the lead role. Chandrasekhar, a major thorn in VP Sing's side strode into the central hall in parliament, confidently greeted party members much like a leader. Minutes before the election Chandrashekhar was jubilant at what he thought would be the outcome. His man Devi Lal would be Prime Minister, Chandrashekhar would be deputy Prime Minister...
