In a gathering of filmmakers, the 3rd Mumbai International Film Festival was inaugurated in the film capital Mumbai and promoted by the Mumbai Academy of moving images or MAMI. Inaugurating the festival, now a part of the cultural calendar of Mumbai, Kamal Haasan presented the lifetime achievement award to veteran filmmaker G.P. Sippy. Kamal Haasan says "It's high time we went international and I think this is one step or many steps ahead towards going international and I am sure every state will come up with its international festival soon." Raveena Tandon says "This is the podium for the Mumbai film industry to express itself completely and on an international level."
