According to history, Lord Shiv after the death of his first wife Sati, in grief, carried her dead body all over the Earth. The left eye of Sati fell at this place and a lake was formed. Hence the place got the name Nainital (Naina - Eye, Tal - Lake). Nainital is a popular hill station in the Indian state of Uttarakhand and headquarters of Nainital district in the Kumaon foothills of the outer Himalayas.
