Traineers of the Adventure course from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarakashi - boys and girls - undergo stream crossing in a fast freezing Himalayan torrent - the Assi Ganga river. This takes place in the middle of December when the temperatures hover around freezing. Instructors have roped up the students to prevent any accidents. The stones underwater are slippery and the students slip on them, often falling into the water as they attempt the river crossing of the Assi Ganga river that comes down from Dodital lake in upper Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Girls from Bhatwari, a local village en route Gangotri, are part of the team.
