In the glimpses, the forest floor reveals two fascinating fungi species—the ruffled paper fungus or wine glass fungus (Podoscypha petalodes) and a clustered growth of Lentinus squarrosulus—both thriving on a decaying log. Their curled, petal-like structures and layered textures create an artistic, almost sculptural presence amid the damp woodland. These fungi are important decomposers, breaking down dead organic matter and returning vital nutrients back to the soil. Podoscypha petalodes is known in traditional practices for mild medicinal properties, while Lentinus squarrosulus is valued in some regions as an edible mushroom, appreciated for its texture and earthy flavor.
