In 1915, hunter and conservationist Jim Corbett bought a small hamlet of 221 acres in the Kumaon hills for a sum of fifteen hundred rupees, where he installed some 40 tents and planned a model village. So really, what better way to experience Corbett’s country than at his home patch, Chhoti Haldwani, where this charming homestay offers you plenty to do: take a heritage walk to Corbett’s home that is now a museum, visit Moti House, see the Chaupal and the 7.2-km wall he built around the village to protect the crops, or even learn to cook Kumaoni-style.
