IGNFA spokesperson says "The training in IFS is spread over a period of three years which is divided into several phases. After their selection by UPSC, the officers are appointed by the Ministry of Forest Environment which is the cadet controlling authority for Indian Forest Service and then these officers are sent to this academy for their induction training. This year the officers had joined on 1st May and after four months of induction training they go to Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussourie for their foundational course." It is situated in the New Forest campus of Forest Research Institute (FRI) on Chakrata Road (NH-72),five kilometers from Dehradun town. IGNFA is currently functioning as a Staff College for the officers of the Indian Forest Service (IFS).
