Indian fishermen collect fish and pull their fishing net from a pond in a village of Uttar Pradesh. The state of Uttar Pradesh has vast and varied inland fisheries and aquaculture resources which are at various levels of utilization. Fisheries resources are in the form of network of rivers and rivulets, reservoirs, network of irrigation canals and extensive floodplain wetland. All these are Common or Public Property Resources –CPR/PPR). Aquaculture is mainly practiced in un-drainable simple excavated multi-purpose ponds. Most of these ponds are owned by the government and hence these are CPPs and commonly called as community ponds.
