River escape an international arts initiative developed by Cleveland arts UK brought on display this week. The drawing and sculptures of Indian avant guard artists Vivan Sundaram at the British Council art gallery in Delhi. Sudaram's recent work mainly on rag content handmade paper from the Gandhi ashram in Ahmedabad which is also made use of materials like engine oil, charcoal and torch marks, dovetails drawing and sculptures while describing industrial and environmental concerns. The show was sponsored by the British Council. Vivan Sundaram was born in Simla in 1943. He studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda (BA Fine, 1965) and at the Slade School, London (Post-Diploma, 1968, on a Commonwealth Scholarship). In London he had the opportunity to meet and learn from R.B. Kitaj
