Uttarkashi town comes to life during the yatra season! Uttarkashi is a holy town in Uttarakhand india . It lies just near the source of both the Ganges and Yamuna rivers and en route to Gangotri Glacier. A number of hydro power projects have been planned along the Ganga, by companies such as NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation). The terrain and climate of Uttarkashi district provide uncongenial physical environment for human settlement. Yet undaunted by hazards and hardships this land was inhabited by hill tribes since ancient times. The famous Uttar kashi earthquake cause great damage to the region some decades back, but the town has bounced back and is a major pilgrim center along the Ganges route.
