Ashokan edict and statue of Mangal Pandey at Shaheed Smarak Meerut, Uttar Pradesh

The Shahid Smarak is one of the oldest war memorials built in Meerut. The white marble structure is 30 m high and was built to commemorate the war martyrs of India. There is a statue of Mangal Pandey in the garden of Shaheed Smarak which is established by Dr Vishnu Kanti Shastri on 10th May 2001. The statue of Mangal Pandey is in black colour which is looking very beautiful. Mangal Pandey played a key part in the events immediately preceding the outbreak of the Indian rebellion of 1857. The Government of India commemorated Pandey by issuing a postage stamp bearing his image on 5 October 1984.
