This footage captures the annual Maun Mela, a traditional community fishing festival held along the Aglar River in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. The festival brings together villagers from the Himalayan regions of Tehri Garhwal, Jaunsar, and Rawai to participate in a collective fishing tradition passed down through generations. Men wade through the fast-flowing mountain river, using fishing nets and searching beneath large rocks where fish take shelter. Following local customs, a natural extract from the Timur plant is used to temporarily affect the fish, making collective fishing possible. Participants proudly display their catch while the riverbanks fill with a lively community atmosphere celebrating this long-standing cultural tradition.
