Villagers are walking toward the Aglar River carrying fishing nets during the 2024 Maund Mela festival in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. The annual gathering takes place near the Yamuna Bridge area in Tehri district, where local communities assemble for a traditional fishing event associated with regional customs dating back to the pre-independence era of the former Tehri kingdom. Maund Mela, also referred to locally as a fishing festival, was historically linked to practices initiated during the rule of the Tehri Maharajah. Groups of men are seen moving together toward the riverbank while carrying nets and other fishing equipment used during the communal activity. The surrounding Himalayan landscape and river environment reflect the rural setting of Garhwal’s mountain communities. The
