Heavy rains due to cyclone Raonu in Chittoor district led to the death of seven persons in the last three days, while severe damage was caused to roads and horticulture orchards. District revenue officer (DRO) L. Vijay Chander told the press on Thursday that the rain-related casualties included two each in Somala, Kalakada and Yerpedu and one each in Nagari and Gudipala. He said ex-gratia payments of Rs 4 lakh to the family of each victim has been released. He said ten mandals -- Mulakalacheruvu, Gurramkonda, Tirupati rural, Kalikiri, Madanapalle, Punganur, Somala, Penumuru, Peddapanjani and Ramakuppam – have received surplus rainfall, while the rest of the mandals registered copious rain.
