The railway budget 1999-2000 presented by Mr Nitish Kumar echoed of economic crisis. Due to the freight expense in the current year, the railway ministry could not meet up with the profits of the year gone by. Even though the forecast was to generate Rs. 21,686 crores revenue the railway fell behind and only manage to generate revenue worth Rs. 20,390 crores only. Nitish Kumar says "For how long will this condition prevail there will be improvements soon enough. Once the express highway takes off, there will be a number of activities once the highway takes off for which our plan size is of Rs. 9,500 crores. Nitish Kumar is a socialist political leader.
