The Gyan Praksh committee's report which went into the sugar crisis took its first political victim. The civil supplies minister Mr. A.K. Antony tendered his resignation from the Council of Ministers and despite persuasion by the Prime Minister he refused to withdraw it. Mr. Antony took umbrage at the fact that his ministry was unfairly mentioned as one of the parties responsible for the sugar import muddle and he resigned on what he called a matter of principle. A.K. Antony says "I cannot believe the verdicts in the answer. I don't believe in taking on compromising my principles and moral approach."
