A Red Silk Cotton tree (Bombax ceiba), also known as semal or simal, is flowering beside a busy urban road in Delhi. The tall tree stands without leaves, its branches covered in scarlet-red blossoms and green flower buds against a clear blue sky. Buses, cars, scooters, and auto-rickshaws pass beneath the flowering tree. Close-up views reveal the thick, waxy red-orange petals emerging from rounded green buds along the branches. The red silk cotton tree commonly flowers while leafless and is a familiar sight during spring in many parts of India. Its nectar-rich flowers attract birds and insects.
