Floods in Assam has left 23 of the 35 districts of the State under water, forcing lakhs of people to take shelter in relief camps. Almost 80 per cent of Kaziranga National Park, home to the one-horned rhinoceros, is submerged under water. More than 2 lakh hectares of crops have been damaged in 23 districts due to the breaching of the embankments of Brahmaputra. The current situation, which has affected over 1.1 million people, follows the disruption caused by pre-monsoon floods in April and May.
