Treading through sunlight and shadow, this murgha cautiously walks through the forest understory, even as Maroon Orioles calls in the backdrop in its clear melodious fluty whistle... at the wildfilmsindia wildlife sanctuary in the western Himalaya. The Kaleej Pheasant pecks at some greenery, looking for buds and grass seeds. The female is more drab brown, compared to the brilliant blue-black of the male with its kalgi or headgear! Difficult to hide when you're sporting so many colours to impress the females, and its the peak breeding season. Bright white crest and fleshy red eye patches make the male Kaleej Pheasant quite a stunner, but tough to camouflage too!
