Spot-billed Duck nests in South Delhi pond - rare sighting May 2017

We filmed these ten eggs of a Spot-billed or Summer Duck in a pond wetland at the Wilderness Orchard and botanical gardens on the 1st of May. The next day, the chicks hatched and were seen following their mother around, in the wetland, able to run and swim within minutes of hatching. The nest was made on floating water plants in the middle of the wetland pond. This is a rare occurrence as wild ducks are not known to nest in South Delhi's concrete jungle! Obviously, we have made a secure home for wetland birds to feel at home in Delhi city!
