A street-side Rajasthani artisan crafts elephants on wood using a nail and wooden plank. The wood carving of Rajasthan is an age old craft which was highly in demand during the royal age. In the earlier days there used to be special artists working in the palaces who were also supported by the royals to promote this art. These days artists at Barmer very skillfully carve beds and couches which have jali or net carving along with many other patterns and motifs.
