River Lapwing (Vanellus duvaucelii) is a resident of the Indian Subcontinent but unrecorded in Pakistan. Black crest, face and throat, grey sides to neck, and black bill and legs. Black patch on belly. In flight, shows broad white greater-covert wing-bar contrasting with black flight feathers, and black tail. Juvenile is similar to adult, but black of head is partly obscured by white tips, and has buff fingers and dark subterminal marks to feathers of upperparts. Voice : A sharp insistent, high-pitched did,did,did, somtimes ending with did-did-do-weet. Habitat : Usually occurs singly, in pairs or in small groups. Feeding behaviour is similar to that of Red-Wattled Lapwing. Often has a hunched posture with head drawn in. Mainly sandbanks and shingle banks of rivers, also estuaries in Bangla
