The seeds are packed into tight casings, probably to be able to withstand several hears of drought and water shortage! The lotus is the ultimate fighter, it seems... A Lotus or the all-Indian kamal flower sheds petals and goes into seeding mode. See slow motion action of this occurring before your eyes, during the monsoon season. As water droplets wall upon the flower, the petals drop off, exposing the yellow seed pod which then develops into the full fledged lotus seeding pod. The seeds will turn larger and black, from being small and green, and will shed into the same water body, for future growth.
