Panting in the summer heat is this Pavo cristatus at our Delhi wildlife sanctuary, dissipating heat from the beak... Strikingly beautiful, unique with its feather train is the National Bird of India, peacock or peafowl. The males are colourful, with a feather train of greenish to bluish iridescent colours. The females are duller and are devoid of the colour and the tail feathers. An adult male standing tall and roaming the open forest with its long tail feathers. Foraging and showing off in front of the juvenile male with no proper train feathers. The juvenile's tail is short with no colour. Notice the tiara like rest on top of the head.
