A field of pink cosmos flowers (Mexican asters) in full bloom in the Himalayas, at 7,100 feet, at a botanical garden and sanctuary. The delicate pink blooms cover the slope in the low, golden sun, with layers of mountain ridges fading into the haze behind them. A person stands among the flowers in silhouette, looking out over the field. Cosmos are garden escapes that arrived perhaps 150 or 200 years ago, and they now look almost like wild Himalayan flowers, though they are not. They are doing brilliantly in the post-monsoon, early winter season. A month earlier, the same spot had only small plants, six to eight inches tall and with no flowers. The footage shows how quickly the garden changes as winter begins.
