Masks are locally known as Bhaap and come in different varieties, colours and shape. Masks in the Buddhist tradition are used as a means to transform one's identity - such as Astara (Joker), Yama- god of death, Buddhist god and Goddess etc.... Astara masks are really popular in Bhutan especially during Tsechu time (Bhutanese Festivals) and people get excited to meet people wearing these masks as they are really funny entertaining people with the dramas, dances and others. They bring a smile to everyone's faces. You can also see the mask of Lord Buddha in Golden colour. These Mask are used mostly during Tshechus and at other special events.
