Verghese Kurien speaks about electricity boards in India. He says, "There is nothing a cooperative cannot do, a cooperative only means people who collectively run for example power generation and distribution. I used to be the chairman of Gujarat electricity board when I was young. I have come to the conclusion that electricity boards cannot function properly anymore and I have advocated why not have rural electric co-ops like in the United States in other words, in a village the electricity board puts only one meter."
