It is born with the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda merge, the melting snows of the Himalayas feed it's water racing through valleys and deep gorges to the plains of India. Ganga is a river of many traditions sacred and revered edged by mythology and custom into the collective consciousness of the country. In the upper reaches where it's turbulent water surged down crashing over gradients and boulders the Ganga like other mountain rivers presents a ready - made arena for an exciting new sport. White water running as the enthusiast call it is fast becoming a popular outdoor sport, a sport whose excitement lies and coming to terms with the wildness of the river challenging it with oars in a vulnerable inflated rubber raft.
