As one flies over the sky blue Chambal river in central India's Madhya Pradesh, the stark contrast between the green fields of post-flowering mustard or sarsoan, the blue sky and the bluer waters comes to the fore. This used to be the badlands of the Chambal ravines, known as the beehad in north India, where dacoits ran amuk and looted from villagers and travellers alike. Now the region has become a farming hub and transit through it is fast, across a vast network of state and national highways and regional roads. Note the white coloured modest scarecrows in the fields! A herd of goats grazes by the river bank, with their village shepherd.
