AIDS be damned as these sadhus shave each other's heads and beards along the banks of the Ganga, in preparation for the massive Maha shivratri dip in the river. They use a simple razor and get the job done. Life along the Ganges truly is window on life in India. The akhdas sahuds lay out their sheets to dry on the river bank. Sadhus come prepared with bottles of oil to annoint their bodies with, carried in old cough syrup bottles! They pack baskets with straw and cover them with flowers. We wonder what that is for? Any idea, folks? Sadhus apply vermillion tika / tikas on the heads of their colleagues and clearly, the loin cloth or dhoti is the garb of choice!
