A large gathering of devotees takes part in the beginning of the Rudranath Yatra at the historic Gopinath Temple in Gopeshwar, Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. The ceremonial doli of Lord Rudranath is carried through the crowded temple area, decorated with orange and yellow marigold garlands and topped with an ornate golden umbrella-like canopy. Devotees gather closely around the palanquin as the procession moves through the hilly surroundings of Gopeshwar. The Gopinath Temple, built in the North Indian Nagara architectural tradition, is decorated with marigold garlands for the religious ceremony.
