The recent flash floods in the otherwise drought-prone area of Gujarat's Saurashtra region has not only hindered human lives, but also killed eight lions and a number of other animals like blue bulls, spotted deers, etc. Flash floods following unprecedented heavy rain in the drought-prone Saurashtra region claimed at least eight Asiatic lions during the last two days and at least 35 others are reported missing. Carcasses of three lions, including a three-month-old female cub, were found in Amreli district, which has been the worst-affected with 816 mm rainfall in three days against its monsoon average of around 600 mm.
