Held annually on Sagar Island at the confluence of the Ganga River and the Bay of Bengal, the Gangasagar Mela is one of India's largest religious gatherings, attracting hundreds of thousands of devotees who travel to take a holy dip and offer prayers at the Kapil Muni Temple. The ferry is filled with pilgrims carrying luggage, blankets, and personal belongings as they make the journey across the river. Many people are dressed in warm clothing, including sweaters, shawls, woollen caps, and jackets, reflecting the winter season when the festival is held.
