Ganga meets the sea, and its 'Sky to Ocean' journey is done: To the sound of hand cymbals and little diya lights lit up, pilgrims father in the dark early morning light at the edge of the Bay of Bengal, for a holy dip in the Ganges river, in honour of its meeting the sea and ending its riverine journey. On a cold wintery morning, this is the scene that unfolds as millions of pilgrims gather in what is perhaps the second largest gathering of humanity on earth, after the larger Kumbh Mela, also a religious celebration of the Ganga river, the life giver of the Indian subcontinent.
