The land of immortals, the home of the Himalayas and truly a paradise on earth, allures everyone from everywhere. Garhwal is a former district of British India and later of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It has been divided into the present-day districts of Chamoli, Pauri Garhwal, and Rudraprayag.The name Garhwal has been used interchangeably with the name Kumaun Himalaya, and has for the most part replaced the latter, although originally the two names described slightly different regions. The towering snow-covered mountains of this region encircle the lush Gangotri valley and its surrounding glaciers.
