At Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary every description of colour and sound fills the senses. nature's most beautiful creatures travel thousands of mile to spend their winters here. The golden age of art and architecture in Mewar was reached during the reign of Rana Kumbha, the best led warrior king of Rajasthan. Kumbhalgarh, a fort he built hidden deep in the forest was inaccessible to erstwhile enemies. The many Palaces, Temples and pillars of Chittor testify to it's glorious rule and this magnificent victory tower was built in celebration of his victory with the combined forces of Gujrat and Malwa. In the early 14th century it was here in Chittor that Allauddin Khilji, sultan of Delhi begged for the glimpse of the beautiful Queen Padmavati in return of peace.
