An American adventure sport called River running has has managed to consolidate its hold on the youth of an ancient land called India. Shivpuri, 16 km of the river Ganga from Rishikesh, in the foothills of the Himalayas was the venue for the under 21 river running national championships with teams from as far away as Manipur in the Northeast, Karnataka in the South, came to compete for the trophy. River running as a sport in India started a few short years ago primarily foreign tourists interested in adventure sports. Stretch above Rishikesh soon became popular as camps providing all the amenities of modern day life was setup on the banks of river.
