Deeo winter snow-pack on the slopes of the Bandarpunch range as seen from the high ridges above Dharali in the lower Gangotri valley from above Harsil, in the winter of 2018. The peak of Kalanag or Black Peak is actually the higher of the two, between White and Black Peak, even through Banderpunch I is the main peak of the range. These two peaks are often referred to as trekking peaks and can be climbed by relative novices although one can still get into trouble on them, and one still needs mountaineering equipment and some practice. Generally approached from the Har-ki-dun valley or across the Dhuvadar Kandi Pass, Kalanag is 20, 956 feet high.
