Kolkata poet and novelist, Gangopadhyay speaks about Kolkata's riot, famine, Rashid Ali Khan, mass protest by Muslims and Hindus, Congress and other parties in early 40s. He said that he saw Gandhi shedding tears seeing the situation of ruined Kolkata. Calcutta was considered a dirty place by the foreigners. "The city of Joy" was written by Dominique Lapierre. After the book was published, people began to know more about Kolkata.
