Mists swirl around the 16, 500 foot high Roopkund Lake, and glacial remnants ring the side that looks up to Mt. Trishul. Pilgrims taking part in the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra cross the ridge above the lake and proceed on their way, amid a field of rock and stone debris. This is also picture point for those visiting circa 2012 in a crude version of today's selfie fascination! Skulls and bones at Roopkund Lake, dating back from 100 to 1000 years, with their origins shrouded in mystery, and only speculations about their history. The lake of Rupkund lies at the highest point of the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra trek - a lake at a high altitude with tales of much history.
