Water is pumped from sub-surface aquifers, using makeshift water pumps, and into broad open and shallow salt pans, where the salt is left out to dry in the baking sun. Little desert of Kutch is a salt marsh located near the Great Rann of Kutch in Kutch district, Gujarat, India.
