Salt crystallization in progress by collecting crystallized salt embedded on the top layer of a sea water reservoir in the Little Rann of Kutch. This is carried out before the salt crystals reach the bottom layer of the reservoir. Natural crystallization of salt is generally done by agents of evaporation. Crystallization of salt normally takes place in arid climates, as strong heat causes fast evaporation of water. The salt workers settle down in the desert for 8 months between October to May and their homes adjacent to the salt pans that they work on. Every year there homes are destroyed by the monsoon and they have to rebuild them during their working season.
