Amidst the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, in the hills of Valparai, the endangered species of Nilgiri Tahr (Nilgiritragus hylocrius) or Nilgiri ibex or simply ibex can be found strolling around on the Hairpin bends to Valparai and the surrounding forest. One can also spot a few Nilgiri langurs (Semnopithecus johnii) in the forest. In order to help the vulnerable species, government volunteers stand with a signboard to slow the cars down and help the langurs cross the road safely.
