A former fishing village, Kuta is a district (kecamatan) and subdistrict/village (kelurahan) in Southern Bali, Indonesia. It was one of the first towns on Bali to see substantial tourist development. It is also one of Indonesia's major tourist destinations as a beach resort. Known for its long sandy beach, varied accommodation, restaurants and bars and renowned surfers who come from Australia, Bali is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Kuta was the site of the October 12, 2002 1st Bali bombing in which 202 people were killed and October 1, 2005 2nd Bali bombing where 26 people were killed. Source: Wik
