Satyrium nepalensis, a ground orchid seen at the Wilderness Orchard and botanical gardens in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. This is a species of wild ground orchid that has surfaced once more as we have provided for a greater level of protection to our mountainside and ravines on the estate. The blooms occurred in September 2014. Viewer Peter Bernhardt points out that "The orchid genus is named after half human-half goat creatures in Greek Mythology (satyrs) who had a lot of sexual vigor and pursued women and nymphs." Nepal Satyrium is a rare medicinal Orchid found in the hills of India, abounding in the Himalayas from Simla eastward; also found in the Khasia Mountains, in those of the Deccan Peninsula around Travancore, and in Ceylon.
